Movie Poster Redesign
Movie Poster Redesign
Graphic Design III: Advanced with Debra Glass
“Good artists copy, bad artists steal.” Artists and designers create from what inspires them. Arguably, there is no such thing as an original idea.
For this project, I was tasked to explore this concept and remix a movie poster using my choice or parody or pastiche. I chose to recreate the poster for one of my favorite films, Black Swan, paying homage to the dramatic themes of the movie.
The result was a collection of techniques that inspired me: something new and unique, but built upon the work of others.
For this project, I chose a movie I love, Black Swan. After making my decision, I watched the movie 3-4 times, taking extensive notes on the themes and symbolism I found throughout. The psychological-thriller follows a perfectionist ballerina on her journey to embodying both the black and white swans in the ballet, Swan Lake. She struggles with her own identity along the way, comparing herself to others, pushing herself beyond her limits, and doing whatever it takes to be the perfect swan queen.
